A huge congratulations to our Australian Paralympians who made us proud at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games! From August 28 to September 8, more than 4,400 athletes from around the globe gathered to compete in 22 sports across Paris' most iconic venues, including the Eiffel Tower, the Château de Versailles, and the Grand Palais. This year's Games also made history with the first-ever Paralympic Opening Ceremony held outside a stadium, as athletes paraded down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to Place de la Concorde. This moment was witnessed by an estimated 65,000 spectators and showcased Paris' commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.
Our Australian athletes competed fiercely in 17 of the 22 sports, bringing passion, determination, and national pride to every event.
Angus Hincksman is an inspiring young para-athlete from South Australia who has defied the odds. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy following a brain injury at birth, Angus was once told he might never walk. However, his determination and passion for running took him all the way to the Paris Paralympics, where he competed against the world’s best. In his Paralympic debut, Angus delivered an outstanding performance, finishing fourth—just over a second behind the winner and fellow Australian Reece Langdon. His journey from uncertainty to Paralympic success is a true testament to his resilience and love for the sport. Congratulations to Angus on this remarkable achievement—he has every reason to be proud!
The incredible efforts of all our athletes at the Paris Paralympics continue to inspire future generations. Our Paralympians are creating a legacy that celebrates athletes for their unique abilities and talents, breaking barriers and paving the way for even more inclusion in sports.
As we applaud our athletes’ achievements, we also look forward to Australia hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will not only unite the world through sport but also offer an opportunity to showcase Australia’s vibrant culture. The Brisbane Games promise to leave a lasting impact, providing long-term benefits for our nation while continuing the spirit of athletic excellence and inclusivity.
The Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games will be held between 24 August and 5 September, 2032.
